Sarah Ní Chléirigh – Friday 13th
By Sarah Ní Chléirigh
I woke up in the morning
With no warning
Lazy and tired
Dad was on the phone I think he just got fired.
I went downstairs and there was a terrible smell
“Clean that up” I heard Mum yell.
The cat had done his business on the floor.
When I looked around the table there was more.
Mum hadn’t done the shop in a week
I was hungry and there was still a horrible reek.
I went to my room and locked my door.
All I had in my room was a mouldy apple core
I decided to go back to sleep
When I lay down I started to count sheep
I woke up late it was time for dinner.
I hadn’t eaten in ages, I knew I was getting thinner and thinner.
We had burnt chicken and chips
It did not feel good to my lips.
Mum suggested we all go to bed
I was not tired so I shouted out ‘NO’
With that they sent me out to sleep in the shed.
